Pioneer was organized in October 1971. The Reverend James Butler was the first Pastor and he served for nine years.  The Reverend Burnell Thompson served close to one year as Intrim Pastor for close to one year.  The Reverend Preston R. Winfrey was elected as the second Pastor of Pioneer and officially started November 1,1981. Our Ministry is based on the belief that our members needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire staff is committed to meeting those needs. And because of this dedicated commitment, a significant percentage of our membership has been with Pioneer for better than three decades.

We believe, and accept, the Bible as the authoritative written and revealed Word of God. We are convinced that mankind's greatest need is for the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Good News). We also believe, according to the Bible, that once a sinner receives Jesus Christ as their Savior, this person becomes a new creation (saved) according to

II Corinthians 5:17 and this is evidenced because your former lifestyle begin to pass away and all things become new.

Pioneer is a warm and friendly congregation. And, it is a place where you will be greeted warmly. Pioneer is:

  • The LORD'S House.
  • A place where a stranger can find a friend.
  • A place where the lost soul can find a Savior.
  • A place where you can grow and develop into the image of Christ.
  • A place where you can work out your salvation.
  • A house of refuge.
  • Large enough to accommodate you and small enough to know you by name.

Our aim is to become more like Jesus.

At Pioneer, the Bible is faithfully taught through the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a place where strong, relevant, Holy Ghost anointed preaching and teaching takes place. Our Music Ministry presents great hymns of the church, traditional and contemporary gospel music, spirituals, metered hymns and anthems. However, we are not entertainers, but true worshipers of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Following our Morning Worship, our New Members are orientated. Formally, our Sunday School met on Sundays.  We are now meeting on Saturday mornings on ZOOM.  Our teachers are eager to share with you in a thought provoking and enriching environment. We strongly emphasize Christian Education at Pioneer, because it is our desire to "study to show ourselves approved unto God." We want to rightly divide, understand and apply the Word of God, so that we might be in line with His will for our lives.

It is our strong conviction that God is a Spirit and that He must be worshiped in Spirit and Truth. And while we do not offer special lighting, entertainment, whistles, stage productions, we do offer Jesus and him being crucified and having been raised from the grave on the third day, gone back to heaven and is seated on the Right Side of God and, he will some day (unannounced) return for His church. In other words, we believe that it's the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ that saves, heals, delivers and sets people free from the bondage and penalty of sin. We still believe Jesus is the answer for the world today and tomorrow.

We welcome the opportunity to earn your trust as a member and our commitment is to deliver to you the best service in ministry. Our present location is one street to the north/west of Walgreen Drug Store on 162nd and South Park in South Holland, Illinois. If you are handicapped, physically impaired, on a walker, or in a wheelchair, there is an elevator lift for your convenience on the east side of the building (off the driveway). Please know that we have ample parking across from the Church and an overflow lot on the west side of the building.  ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND
